ABOUT US
Welcome! I’m Gail, the globe-spinning, adventure seeking, love to explore but hate to unpack constant traveler who started this company several years ago. And that guy on the logo? That’s Tim, my Capybara In Chief.
Like all good capybaras, Tim is sociable. He’s easy going. He’s curious. He doesn’t like to stay in the same place too long. And, he’s a great navigator. No wonder I had to have him on my team!
What makes us different? At Border To Border Travel, we create meaningful, personalized, often unique travel experiences you might not find elsewhere. Simply put, by partnering with top, worldwide suppliers in the travel industry, we have the experience, knowledge, and contacts needed to help you decide the right locations, lodging, transportation and tours that match your travel style. Plus, not only can we negotiate the best price for you, we frequently receive discounts and perks directly from suppliers that you can’t find on your own.
If making discoveries at your own pace and according to your own interests is how you like to see the world, get in touch. We’ve been designing our own itineraries for years, and we’d love to help you create yours.
Asia. Africa. Europe. South America.
To date, I’ve visited 58 countries. Perhaps like you, I’m curious about the world, eager to leave my comfort zone behind in favor of new cultures, new faces, new environments, new cuisines. And although I enjoy standard “must see” attractions, I’m truly fulfilled by off-the-beaten-path discoveries and pursuits based on my own interests. Gaining new perspectives about the world we share and genuinely connecting with locals has enriched my life immeasurably. I wish the same for you!
Some of My Favorite Memories Include:
- Staying at Casa Particulars (private homestays) across Cuba, with local families who rented us a spare room in their home. There is no better way to experience bona fide Cuban life! The welcoming smiles, home cooked meals, shared stories. We brought our hosts items that are readily available in the US but hard to find in Cuba and they were graciously accepted; over the counter medicines, hygiene products, clothing, toys. Cuba holds a very special place in my heart, and knowing our stay directly provided financial support to our Cuban host families was extremely important.
- Trekking through the Amazon jungle in Brazil with a guide and a botanist. Unspoiled terrain, often times challenging. Infinitely rewarding. Yes, in every direction there were scary looking bugs and plants that look harmless but aren’t. Thankfully, they were very polite as long as we left them alone.
- In Thailand, standing knee deep in a river bathing orphaned elephants, was absolutely unforgettable. Each elephant had a history of how they came to be rescued. Considering so many were abused by their owners, it’s a wonder they overcame their past and learned to trust humans.
- Spotting wild jaguars in The Pantanal, with zoologists there to study the behavior and dwindling environment of these magnificent cats.
- Driving around Iceland, stopping the vehicle every 10 minutes just to gawk at the ever changing and other worldly scenery. Nothing else is like that country.
- Staying 7 nights in a rustic tent at a game reserve in Botswana. It’s here that we learned to love 2 minute bucket showers. And waking each morning to identify which animal made the closest tracks to our camp.
- Staying on an open-air klotok in Borneo, gently drifting down narrow, forest-lined waters, hearing the long call of distant orangutans. It felt like time stood still when they approached us, allowing themselves to be seen.
- Make a difference to Orangutans Today
- Okay, but who made that logo?
All ’round swell guy Tim Souers. Artist extraordinaire. Think I’m kidding? Check out his website. The guy’s brilliant.
